We went to this camp last year and it was awesome! Well organized and great activities for the kids.
Once again, what a fantastic camp. How can we ever thank you for this gift you offer to all our kids?
I had such a wonderful time this Year. Each year it gets better and better. And each year I am brought to tears when it is time to leave.
Far from Ethiopia, Heritage Camp in VA, Feels Like Home
It is wonderful and is a great place to make connections with other families like yours.
A ten hour drive from Rhode Island! – and it was worth every mile! All 4 of us had a wonderful time, immersed in Ethiopia. In fact, my older son asked, as we were leaving “Mom, I know it was a long drive but can we come back every year and then I can bring my own children?
Have to tell you that M and S cried when we left camp. They love the friends they see there and made there and feel so connected. We stopped for gas and S got turned around a few minutes later she asked where we were going I said home. I looked back and she was crying. I said, “where did you think we were going?” . She said “back to camp” a million thank yous!!!!!!
This is EXACTLY what we have been looking for!
Mi” cannot stop talking about “his camp” and doing his shoulder dancing! “Ma” (non-Ethiopian sibling) also had a blast and I could tell it has really sunken in that he is now part of a much larger (and much cooler) Ethiopia-American family.
Anyway I just want to thank you for organizing the Heritage and culture camp we have a great time. Keep up the good work.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Words can’t say enough. You did an awesome job at putting together the Ethiopian Cultural Camp….The camp was organized, fun, and entertaining. I can’t wait until next year!!!! I am ever so grateful for your hard work and dedication. I had a chance to connect with old friends and meet new friends. The staff, especially the caregivers were very friendly and engaging. …. I am so grateful to Ethiopia for blessing me with my daughter. My words can’t express what you have done. You are helping adoptive parents raise first generation Ethiopians in America. Keep doing what you are doing. You will always have my support in anything that you do. Finally, the greatest gift I can give “W” is the gift of teaching her Amharic. So I have re-committed myself to learning 5 words per day…
Thank you for providing this opportunity!
Thank you! For this experience. It was enriching, fun.
This was an amazing, inspiring weekend! We can’t wait for next year’s
Great Job!
Great job! Loved every minute. My daughter said she wants to stay at the ET camp much longer!!
The camp was a great experience, and very well organized. Thank you.
Thank you for providing this opportunity!
Great experience – my whole family gained a tremendous amount
Thanks for including us for a meaningful day with wonderful people.
I just wanted to say how great of a time we had! T told me that they were the best days of his life at this camp. I was so thrilled as a parent to see him so happy! —it is such a positive experience for all Ethiopian children!—Thanks so much
What an incredible weekend we had at camp. It was transformational for me, as a parent to an Ethiopian child, to be so warmly embraced by Ethiopian adults who can teach “Ha” her culture so much better than I can. It makes me even more motivated to reach out when I know that I won’t be rejected by other Ethiopians. Thank you so much for all that you did. For loving all of our children enough to sacrifice the time, effort, etc to give this to all of us! “Ha” loved every minute and has already said next years camp should be a week long (I agree!!). Congrats on a job well done!
“She said that the incense smell was something she remembered and also shared with me that she used to grind the coffee beans. Two more bits of information from her earlier life that I will treasure!
I am writing to thank you for all your hard work organizing the Heritage and Culture Camp in Harrisonburg. It was one of the highlights of my family’s summer… As we were walking to the parking lot, I put my arm on his (non-Ethiopian sibling) shoulder and said, “You know, a thing I really like about you is that you’re so comfortable about other people’s cultures.” I was imagining him in that circle of children at the bonfire singing “Wendeme Jakob.”. He said without hesitation, “It’s not another culture, mom. It’s our family’s culture
betam ameseganalhu for this wonderful weekend for my family. We had a great time, truly, truly, it was a wonderful experience….What my family received, each of us, far exceeded our wildest dreams. You provided my family an opportunity to be enmeshed in Ethiopian culture — to learn, to celebrate, to feel a total sense of belonging. For that, we will forever be in your debt. Amesegenallo.
