The Gathering of Heritage & Culture Camp Family

16th ANNUAL – JULY  2024

In the course of organizing and conducting 15 years of a family-oriented, 4 days/3 nights, fun-filled educational getaway, we have proven to deliver an authentic cultural experience. We continue to be the ONLY organization dedicated to bringing together ALL families who are raising Ethiopian-American children. As a must -attend event and the highlight of the summer for our returning families, it is heartening to realize that we have created a community and a family – The Heritage & Culture Camp Family. In 2019, a group of us traveled as a Family to Ethiopia the place that means a lot to all of us, the place that started it all and the place that connects us all – What a trip that was!

We are also proud that our participants and families come in all “shapes and sizes”. Many families come with children spanning infancy through college-age. Others are prospective parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We also enjoy seeing the grandparents joining their families at this gathering, not only do they add to the family atmosphere, but having them is also a special honor in the culture.

Our goal is to make it easy for you, while making it fun, enjoyable and memorable for all. This four day long gathering will have lots of fun activities, while offering educational and self-improvement opportunities for everybody. Families are encouraged to take advantage of all the activities available, which are all age-appropriate and will appeal to parents, as well as youngsters and teenagers. In addition to language and cultural awareness classes, we will also have seminars and conferences designed to help parents in raising children in a multicultural environment.

There will also be programs for the entire family – such as singing, dancing (Eskista), “campfire”, a special movie, ever-growing Gebeya (market), Ethiopian coffee ceremony, and group meals.  We build-in free time for exploring great indoor/outdoor activities and time for catching up and relaxing with family and friends.

As always, we will have our ever-popular Ethiopian banquet and cultural dance, to be held on Saturday, featuring professional dancers and musicians.
